Born and raised just outside Ilkley Moorin Yorkshire, Alan's love of gardening began at the early age. He began his career as a apprentice gardener at 15 whilst training at horticultural college at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. He has since become a household name and one of Britain’s most trusted and loved gardeners.

Alan has been named "Gardening Writer of the Year" on two occations and voted "Television Personality of the Year" in four consecutive years. Alan is known for presenting "Gardeners World" and "Ground Force" for many years, he has also written over 40 gardening books and can be seen regularly on other television programs. He can also be found at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, where water features 2 go have exhibited.
