Synopsis: Local pond and water feature exploration could benefit children’s education.

Local pond and water feature exploration could benefit children’s education. Safety considerations with regards to children and open water obviously need to be taken into consideration; showing them how to safely explore pond life and encourage a greater awareness of nature and the environment.

A recent article from This is Local London suggests that children have been able to analyze pond life from a visit to Epping Forest Field Centre, where park staff helped 58 local children learn about nature in the water feature.

Sarah Etherington told This is Local London that:

“People often aren’t as willing to explore ponds as they are, say, to roll over a log and look at what is underneath. We want to get children excited about the hidden world of pond life.

Pond liners can be used to great effect to create a water feature in a garden; which then can be used to let children safely explore nature. Water attracts many species including frogs, toads and birds. The addition of a garden pond could help to attract animals as well as helping children’s learning.
