A leading publication advises that water features have mesmerizing qualities.

Writing on behalf of the Telegraph, Bunny Guinness explains the different types of water feature available and assesses the material options used to produce water features. Some say that small water features can be a bit tacky; the expert suggests that “A good way around this is to make the water come into its own and give it a specific function.”

Water features can be manufactured from a range of different materials. The size, location and design of your garden will have a huge impact on which type of material will suite your garden.

An expensive option is lead, which if you have good DIY skills can be bought in rolls from many leading builders merchants. It can be a great way to decorate the outside of a pebble pool, without the need to bury into the ground. It can simple be used as a rap to sit around the pool and cover the black plastic bucket. Then a simple solar fountain or lily pad in the water would finish of the job nicely. If lead is too expensive, cheaper alternatives include Zinc and copper, which can be used in exactly the same way.

Log roll and woven willow is a very simple, quick and cost effective way to create a similar solution to the more costly lead, copper or zinc wrap. The log roll simply sits around the pebble pool and finishes the feature in less than five minutes, much quicker and simpler than digging the pebble pool into the ground!

Recently, the BBC's Gardeners' World magazine suggested that items such as fountains and pumps can once again take pride of place in ponds.
