Yorkshire Forward, Bradford Council, the Homes and Communities Agency and the Regional Transport Board have come to the aid of the all those people who love water features. Building work on Bradford’s £24m city centre development is set to complete in eight months time, and become the UK’s largest city centre water feature, featuring fountains, walkways, lighting and even sound effects.
Locally the scheme has received huge support; however an application to the Big Lottery Fund’s Living Landmarks Committee to help fund the £24m development was rejected for this project. Minutes from the Big Lottery Fund’s Living Landmarks Committee state that:
“The committee agreed that the project was fundable. “
“However in considering the application in competition with others received, the committee decided that it preferred other applications in the portfolio.”
“When discussing the application the committee agreed that the design proposals for the project were strong and understood how the project linked with the wider regeneration proposals for the city. “
“It considered that other applications had more strongly demonstrated future community benefit.”
The addition of Water Features can have a huge impact in local life. They will help to transform Bradford image nationally. Many thousand local people will now have a stunning water feature to visit, admire and even try to reproduce (on a smaller scale of course) in their own gardens.
